Savidis House | Contemporary Home in Pymble

This house in Pymble has a bold contemporary family home designed in direct response to its steep bushland setting and environmentally sensitive site conditions. Located on bushfire-prone land and adjoining an environmental protection zone containing critically endangered Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest, the project required a highly considered architectural response that balanced environmental constraints with contemporary living.

The architectural design embraces the natural topography, with a series of overlapping forms stepping down the slope and intersecting one another to create a dynamic and sculptural built form. Defined edges frame cantilevered balconies, roof forms and entry elements, giving the residence a striking visual presence while maintaining a strong relationship to the surrounding landscape.

Materiality plays a central role in the design expression. Upper levels are wrapped in contemporary metal cladding panels that contrast against the warmth and texture of timber and stone at the lower levels, reinforcing the layered composition of the home and grounding it within the site.

Internally, the residence is designed to maximise natural light, outlook and connection to the bushland surrounds, creating generous family living spaces that feel immersed within the landscape.

Savidis House demonstrates how thoughtful architectural design can transform a highly constrained site into a refined and highly liveable contemporary home. For homeowners building within Sydney’s bushland suburbs, it highlights the value of working with an architect who understands complex environmental conditions and site-responsive design.

Our role encompassed architectural design, documentation and project management for both the Development Application (DA) and Construction Certificate (CC) stages.
