Office Fitout & Renovation, Pymble
This project at 6 West Street, Pymble for Unisson Disability (formerly Sunhine) demonstrates how thoughtful architectural design can transform an ageing commercial building into a contemporary, accessible and welcoming environment that better supports both staff and service users.
Zoning
The site is zoned E3 Productivity Support, supporting a range of business, community and service-based uses. The zoning provides opportunities for organisations such as Unisson Disability to deliver important support services while remaining integrated within the local community.
Constraints & Opportunities
The existing building served as both an operational community access program and the administrative headquarters for Unisson Disability but no longer met contemporary accessibility expectations. The project presented an opportunity to modernise the facility, improve accessibility and create a stronger connection between the building and the surrounding streetscape while maintaining ongoing operational requirements.
Design Strategy
The architectural design focused on creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment through substantial upgrades to both the interior and exterior of the building. A striking new external lift tower, stairs and accessible ramping provide compliant level access while creating a contemporary architectural identity. Streetscape landscaping was introduced to reconnect the building with its setting and improve arrival experiences. Internally, the lower floor was reconfigured as a contemporary office environment while upper levels were redesigned to better support the needs of the community access program. Extensive use of glass enhances natural light and openness, while carefully considered colour palettes create a vibrant and positive environment for staff, clients and visitors.
Outcome / Value Proposition
This project demonstrates how architectural design can improve accessibility, functionality and user experience within community-focused buildings. By combining contemporary design, universal access principles and thoughtful planning, the redevelopment delivers a welcoming and highly functional environment that supports Unisson Disability’s mission while creating lasting value for the organisation and the broader community.
We have worked on this property on multiple occasions including the preparation of Development Applications, a Complying Development Certificate, Construction Certificates and the provision of contract administration of the construction contract on site.
Client Testimonial
“We could not be happier – we had an extremely tight budget and a rather ill-suited building in terms of layout and accessibility (both within the building and access into the building) – Murray turned this around. He listened to our list of wishes and desires and both responded to and indeed enhanced our expectations.” – Mrs Gail Jeltes
