“Wahroonga House” | Heritage Listed Home Restoration in Wahroonga
Wahroonga House on Burns Road is a heritage-listed alterations and additions project within the Wahroonga Conservation Area, involving the careful restoration of a well-known local home in a previously dilapidated condition.
The design removed later unsympathetic Old English additions and reinstated the home’s street presence as a premier example of its original Federation character. To the rear, a substantial new addition delivers generous living areas, alfresco spaces, a substantial basement garage and a discreetly located secondary dwelling, all carefully integrated with the heritage fabric.
This project was shaped by complex constraints, including its prominent corner site and the condition of the existing structure. Through close collaboration with consultants and Council, the design successfully navigated a challenging approvals process to achieve a refined and enduring outcome—demonstrating how even the most difficult heritage projects can be thoughtfully resolved to both preserve and revitalise an important home.
Our role encompassed architectural design, documentation and project management for both the Development Application (DA) and Construction Certificate (CC) stages.
