Praturlon House | Home Renovation in Wahroonga

Praturlon House on Braeside Street, Wahroonga is a carefully considered alterations and additions project that transforms a modest post-war dwelling into a light-filled contemporary family home inspired by the timeless character of Hamptons-style architecture.

The site presented several unique design challenges, including a shallow allotment, significant established trees and an existing dwelling positioned unusually close to the rear boundary. Among the site’s defining landscape features was a substantial Atlantic Cedar occupying much of the front yard, requiring the architectural design to respond sensitively to both the tree protection constraints and the surrounding Wahroonga Heritage Conservation Area context.

To unlock the potential of the home, the design extended the dwelling forward toward the street, an approach generally discouraged within heritage streetscapes. Through careful planning, proportion and detailing, the resulting architectural response enhances rather than detracts from the established character of Braeside Street.

The new façade activates the home’s street presence while introducing volume and natural light into the central living spaces, creating a contemporary heart to the residence. White timber detailing, generous north-facing glazing and layered interior spaces reinforce the architectural language while maintaining warmth and connection to the surrounding landscape.

Praturlon House demonstrates how thoughtful architectural design can successfully navigate complex heritage and site constraints to create a refined and highly liveable home. For homeowners in Wahroonga and Sydney’s Upper North Shore, it highlights the value of engaging an architect to deliver bespoke solutions that balance character, functionality and contemporary family living.

Our engaged services extended to preparing the concept design, architectural documentation and project management of the consultancy team for the Development Application (DA) and Construction Certificate (CC). Construction is due to commence mid-2026.
